In a project that involves the transmission of information between a control unit and a receiving actuator, it is always necessary to select the appropriate data transmission medium and communication protocol. In the field of LED lighting, there are many commonly used control methods, which are selected based on the specific application, taking into account both the advantages and disadvantages of each solution.
Today’s communication capabilities enable countless functionalities, allowing users to configure and parameterize LED systems, monitor the status of the installation, control it in real time, and, above all, integrate it with a wide variety of facility management systems and available accessories, thereby optimizing system performance through automation and the implementation of smart functions.
We have often encountered projects that required a customized approach to communication, most frequently when the LED module or system we designed had to be integrated with a device that does not use any of the common communication protocols used in lighting. An example of this is the CAN bus used in the automotive industry.
So if your challenge is to create a device using LED lighting that will be controlled in an unconventional way, please contact our design department, which will be happy to take on custom projects.
In an era of rapidly evolving technologies, such as the IoT (Internet of Things), and rapidly advancing digitalization, it is essential to be prepared for the next industrial revolutions, in which electronic devices are expected to collect, process, and analyze ever-increasing amounts of data to enable behavior prediction and machine learning. Combine individual control protocols with other solutions so your product can gain a competitive edge in the market.
Whether communication is wired or wireless, regardless of the user interface, the need to create a dedicated application, the use of voice commands, or artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, in our daily work we draw on years of experience and the latest industry reports. We are open to challenging and complex projects that require a creative approach.
Multicolor LED module for visual communication triggered by a signal from the CAN bus
Develop an RGB+ LED module from scratch, complete with an integrated communication and control system, capable of interpreting signals from the CAN bus in an autonomous vehicle and executing programmed functions designed to inform passengers about the availability of seats on the vehicle.
Analysis of data transmitted via the CAN bus, design of a custom LED module operating in RGB mode with digitally addressed LEDs, programmable lighting sequences, achieved through microprocessor-based control and the implementation of custom control algorithms.
The module we designed was intended for an autonomous electric vehicle, so we wanted it to align with the technology used in the vehicle and its futuristic vision of the future. The light source was a line of LED points using integrated RGB chips, controlled digitally. The advantage of this solution was therefore not only the ability to emit a full color palette but also the creation of dynamic lighting effects, as we could program the control sequences for each LED individually. The main challenge in this project was to develop a specific communication protocol that would monitor signals on the CAN bus, interpret them, and transmit them to the control circuit of our LED module, triggering specific, pre-programmed instructions. In this way, we informed passengers not only about seat status (vacant/occupied/seat for a person with a disability/seat for a mother with a child) but also, through dynamic effects, indicated directions to reach a designated seat in the vehicle.
The light emitted by the LED modules served various functions depending on whether the vehicle was at a stop or in motion. It could serve as ambient lighting, support for the main lighting, or signal lighting, indicating an important message or a hazard.
