What does that mean?

The word “tunable” comes from English and means “adjustable.” In the context of lighting, tunable white technology allows you to adjust the color of light by mixing two extreme shades of white light. Its use is particularly beneficial in healthcare facilities, offices, and workplaces, especially in multifunctional spaces, as it can have a positive impact on health, productivity, and safety. The resulting color temperature, obtained by mixing the two components, allows for the simulation of natural daylight and helps regulate the circadian rhythm.

Is it possible to automatically adjust the color of light in rooms based on dynamic measurements of the color temperature outside the building? If you have similar questions about hybrid lighting systems and control systems, you can count on us to provide answers. In recent years, we have introduced many LED systems based on dynamic white light, including in the fountain and museum industries.

CASE STUDY 1

Panels imitating daylight installed in window mock-ups.

Contractor: Historical Museum of the City of Krakow

Solutions used:
Problem:

A lighting system using LED light sources, allowing the color temperature to be changed in the range of 2700–6500K, with control integrated into the building automation system.

Solution:

Selection of LED modules on a flexible substrate, powered by 24 V DC, with the possibility of adjusting the luminous flux using the PWM method, design of an external color temperature sensor, selection of an executive driver to control LED modules with the possibility of integration with the selected BMS system.

Main description:

The investor wanted to be able to manually adjust the color temperature of the LED light sources from the building automation system. In addition, the light sources were to be arranged in such a way as to obtain a uniform luminous surface without visible light lines, using a light-diffusing tensioned membrane. For this purpose, we used OSRAM LED modules on a flexible substrate. In addition, we proposed a solution in which the color temperature could be controlled autonomously, based on readings from an external CCT sensor, following the sun. The investor was very pleased with this functionality. To this end, we designed a custom LED control system that would enable this to be achieved using the DMX protocol. In addition, we used our own 6-channel LED driver, operating in DMX/RDM mode. The whole system was integrated with the building’s automation system so that the LED system could be controlled in manual or automatic mode.

Interesting fact:

Automatic color temperature control in the range of 2700–6500K in real time, based on readings from an external CCT sensor.
